ANDROPAUSE

Andropause, also referred to as Hypogonadism, Low Testosterone or Low T, is a condition which is characterized by the slow and steady decline of testosterone production. Some characterize Andropause as the “Male Version of Menopause”.

Testosterone is present in both males and females, but men produce up to ten times more testosterone than women. Testosterone is a primary hormone for men and is integral to male health throughout a man’s lifetime. Testosterone plays a role in puberty, male potency, libido and sexual function, as well as muscle mass and body fat percentages and distribution.

Testosterone also figures prominently in biological, sexual and general health, while influencing the body’s ability to produce sperm, cope with stress, maintain focus and concentration, bone density, blood cell production and immune system support. Thus, it’s easy to how Andropause and declining testosterone can contribute to health breakdowns as it progresses.

Statistics

During Andropause, testosterone levels steadily decline, usually beginning as men age beyond their late 20’s. By the time men age into their 40’s, nearly 40% have declined to a point where symptoms become quite noticeable.

Statistics reflect that over 15 million men in the U.S. suffer from Andropause, but only 5-10% of these men seek treatment due to the fact that many men don’t realize that this problem is correctible.

Speed of Onset – Andropause vs. Menopause

Andropause and Menopause often differ in speed of onset. Andropause is characterized by a gradual decline of testosterone levels and hormonal imbalance in men while the hormonal changes that result with Menopause will often emerge more quickly and dramatically.

Domino Effect | Hormonal Imbalance

As Andropause leads to declining levels of low testosterone, it also affects the hormonal balance of other hormones in the body. This hormonal imbalance can create a cascading effect that results in multiple health problems.
